The discovery of an abandoned child by two smugglers kicks into a gear a series of tragic, comic events.. From the magnificent architecture to the seedy pawn shops, the city is populated with a mix of racial, class and ethnic diversity that signifies most modern European centres. The labyrinthine plot involves dozens of characters involved in various activities, like; illegal immigration and people smuggling, childlessness, adoption, black-market economies, and hot-tempered clashes between social classes. As the title may suggest, Hrebejk captures the complex history and multi-cultural maelstrom that is contemporary Europe and he does so with a wry-eyed sense of humour.
